(), is an American multinational technology company based in Seattle that focuses on e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence. Green America listed 10 Reasons Not to Shop Amazon:

Exploits workers and fights unions. This article from The Guardian discusses how Amazon has surppressed unions in its warehouses and how unions could help its workers. In this article from Green American’s “Hidden Workers Fighting for Change” issue, we spoke to labor rights activists about the harsh conditions in Amazon’s warehouses and how they need to change. A China Labor watch report from 2018 also found disturbing labor conditions in factories that manufacture Amazon electronics.

Is largely powered by fossil fuels. Green America’s Build a Cleaner Cloud campaign has been pushing Amazon for years to use clean energy to power its web hosting services, one of the biggest cloud storage hosts on the internet, and gotten Amazon to 50% clean energy (which means the other 50% is largely from coal, gas, giant hydropower, and nukes). The Center for Biological Diversity’s “Amazon Shine” campaign pushes Amazon to use solar energy to power its warehouses for the good of wildlife habitats.

Fights tax laws that would support local economies. This Atlantic article discusses how Amazon worked to kill a business tax in Seattle that would have created affordable housing in the city that is home to Amazon’s headquarters. This USA Today article talks about how Amazon raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in a faux grassroots campaign called “No Tax on Jobs” in Seattle.

Creates excessive packaging waste. A Forbes writer dives deep into the waste issues created by the online shopping marketplace and Amazon in particular. This Bloomberg article goes into the growth in cardboard waste in the rise of Amazon Prime.

Raised minimum wages at the expense of workers’ benefits and incentives. In October, Amazon announced that the company’s minimum wage would be raised to $15 an hour. The Washington Post wrote about how even workers affected by this change were not excited, because the increase is not enough to consider many of its jobs “good jobs.” NBC News discussed how Amazon dropped stock plans and bonuses at the same time as it raised the minimum wage, which left many unhappy.

Facilitates the human rights crisis on the US-Mexico border. The Guardian reported that Amazon Web Services hosts the Department of Homeland Security's databases which allows "the department and its agencies to track and apprehend immigrants."

Stifles the voices of authors and harms the flow of information to the public. A New York Times journalist talked to publishers and authors about why Amazon wasn’t helping them, and how the company might be violating anti-trust laws.

Rakes in billions in taxpayer subsidies for its new headquarters buildings in Virginia, despite being worth over $1 trillion. Investigators at The Intercept reported that Amazon’s “HQ2” will cost Virginia taxpayers $4.6 billion, twice as much as the company stated. The Washington Post reported it would cost taxpayers $2.5 billion, but that’s still one of the world’s most valuable companies tapping taxpayers’ money to build headquarters that will create a lot of negative impacts for local residents.

Penalizes small businesses that use its platforms. The Sun magazine did a feature interview with author Stacy Mitchell on how Amazon undermines local economies and is bad for small businesses.

Treats workers of its own delivery services poorly, which unlike UPS and USPS are not unionized. Inc digs into the struggles of being a driver for a company that promises rapid delivery. Business Insider spoke to 31 Amazon drivers and heard several disturbing stories of a physically demanding and poor-paying job.

Warehouse Associate (Current Employee) says

"Very bad timings 1am to 12pm"

Picker/Stower (Current Employee) says

"There are plenty of other places that pay well and don’t make you literally work yourself to death, if you decide to work at this awful company just know that you will be walk/sprinting 20+ miles a DAY. If not you will get in trouble/wrote up or terminated. They lie and say they are Covid safe but they are not, I saw tons of safety violations and they are very hush hush about things. Not a safe work environment. If I could give 0 stars I would. Cons: Unsafe, tiring, does not pay well"

Fulfillment Associate (Former Employee) says

"Don't waist your time they do not have respect for anyone, and the amount of power tripping going on is astounding. The level of stress they will put on you is not worth the little bit of money you will be making there. It's like a test to see how much pain you can take. Cons: All"

Logistics Specialist (Former Employee) says

"Please don't do it. It sounds okay and the pay looks okay, I know. But it sucks. I would never recommend to anyone I know. You are just a number at Amazon, nothing more. Cons: Demanding conditions"

Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) says

"There is no on site management, you work over time till 1 am or longer with no overtime pay. You don’t even have to do your job properly no one actually cares or is there to say anything, random people just decide their in charge. And so many Karen’s Cons: Rest of the year it sucks"

Amazon Fulfillment Associate (Former Employee) says

"Amazon did not care about it's employees. We were all told we would get a 500$ bonus which ended up being 250$ after taxes were taken out. Bezos is the richest man on earth..lots of the employees were coming down with covid. The hours are ridiculous. Work here at your own risk. Cons: Short breaks, back breaking labor, unkept promises"

Cloud Support (Former Employee) says

"Super Worst Place, Big Name But They are of no use. Very stupid and working like BPO or you can say Call Center. Don't join , I will recommend you to try other place. Long Hours, Pressure, Stress, Micromanagement, Jealousy in people which will led you down. A lot of issues while taking leaves. Working on weekends. No value to employees. Cons: Long Hours, Pressure, Stress, Micromanagement, Jealousy in people, Very stupid and working like BPO ( Call Center )"

Shipping Clerk (Current Employee) says

"Do not work here! They do not work with ADA, high expectations for very little pay and very very long hours with only an hour break! Poor management!!"

Warehouse Worker (Former Employee) says

"Horrible company to work for if you need more convincing just turn on the news. Not to mention the management is garbage they don’t care about your input they sit around and watch you work while socializing the entire time meanwhile making a few extra bucks than you to do a lackluster job. If you’re okay with idiots managing you then this is the place to work. They won’t approve time off. They won’t approve vacation time. I once got flagged for time of task when I went to the bathroom. They deserve to be understaffed maybe the management would actually jump in if they didn’t have as many minions working for them. Cons: Everything worst job"

Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) says

"They will consider anyone for the management position even if the person is not qualified. The place is a circus. Way too many chiefs and not enough Indians."

Picker/Packer (Former Employee) says

"I had the worst experience working here. I was hired temporary then it lead to permanent. After that management would make us go home and make us take VTO. They have the worst attendance policy . If you don't have enough UPT you will get canned no matter the reason. Which is not right and don't bring a doctor's note in they don't accept them! If you are not hitting your goal the learning ambassadors will hound you to pick up the pace. The bathrooms are far from your work station. Which I knew a few people that got bad UTI's. It seems like they just hire anyone. They don't even drug test you there They are constantly hiring and firing people. This is not a stable work place. Cons: Everything !!"

Picker (Current Employee) says

"Amazon is management sucks. Cons: Non"

magazziniere (Former Employee) says

"Sono solo capaci di sfruttare la povera gente. Ti annientano con la mole di lavoro, i continui richiami perché devi letteralmente correre e non rispettano i divieti di legge di farti sollevare certi pesi. All'interno della azienda non è presente alcun rappresentante sindacale, sei in loro balia. Cons: Salario da fame, turni massacranti"

Part-time Packaging • Packer (Former Employee) says

"Pay is good, Breaks are horrible. People are inconsiderate. A lot of walking and physical demand. If you are short, you will have a hard time. 10hr shift are too much"

"Very hard labor depending on your situation then it’s good money it got bad on my back but hey work hard play hard but f that u only get two breaks for a 10 hour shift foh they playing people . Cons: Only two breaks"

operaio (Former Employee) says

"Sono stato un dipendente in Casirate, manager senza alcuna esperienza, ti danno un referente senza esperienza e con una gran maleducazione, RITMI DA PAURA ti danno mansioni solo esclusivamente quello ti fanno morire li solo in quel posto, Ragazze straniere, Italiane che fanno gli occhi dolci fanno subito strada non faranno lavori stressanti. Cons: Tutti."

Amazon (Former Employee) says

"maybe this job is for you but it was not for me. The quota of meeting certain calls and helping customers was absurd. people mad about packages that have to do with drivers is not our responsibility. Cons: deal with customers mad at you for something you have no control"

Forklift Operator/Warehouse (Former Employee) says

"Worst company nothing but lies everyone mad company dont care about you dont have work but keeps hiring make u pull tape up or go home only care about numbers no production bonus no real training and really no holliday pay really work 12 hours got paid 6 hours so in my opinion amazon is the worst company ive ever wanted for someone hit me 3 times with there forklift hit my forklift so i say train people right way and train them on what to scan so and as covid thats a joke to them if it wasnt we have our own harness and would clean the equipment before someone elsed used it"
